What is an HVAC System?
The abbreviation HVAC comes from: Heating, Ventilation and
Air conditioning.
Heating – Heating refers to ensuring a comfortable thermal
level in an indoor environment. This can be your own home, an office building, a
restaurant, a commercial space, a greenhouse, a factory etc. Heating can be
done locally or using a centralized system and the heat sources used for
heating are:
·
Fuel combustion (solid, liquid or gaseous);
·
heating agent (usually hot water, provided by
district heating systems);
·
electricity (in case of heating with electric
radiators);
·
solar energy (captured by solar thermal panels);
·
the environment (soil) (in case of heat pumps).
Ventilation - is the process by which the contaminated air in
the room is evacuated and replaced with fresh air, brought from outside,
filtered and heated/ cooled.
Air Conditioning – Air conditioning refers to cooling indoor
air, by recirculating it over a heat exchanger that works with refrigerant. The
air is not just cooled, but also dehumidified. In the case of an AC system with
inverter, it is also possible to heat the indoor air by reversing the thermal
cycle of the appliance.
An efficient HVAC system also includes heat recuperators,
which fulfill at least 4 functions: air evacuation, air introduction,
filtration and heat recovery through thermal energy transfer.
