As the consistent effort of trying to recycle every type of material and product that we own continues, there are worries that some products simply cannot be recycled. That is the case for HVAC filters, but if you ask an actual HVAC contractor, they can tell you that there is a lot more to the story than just that.

The problem starts when we evaluate the chemical composition of the filters. Most HVAC filters are designed to use various types of woven fibers to keep unwanted allergens and dust particles away from your home. This means that most of them can’t be recycled from the start, as the polyester and fiberglass compounds are not recyclable at all.

Another issue has to do with the actual harmful compounds that the filter often captures in its fibers.
